Intermediate Piano

Intermediate Piano club had their first meeting this week! I can already tell we have a very talented group! Students played through 3 songs, The Bell Tower, Seagulls, and At the Circus. Music reminders will be posted to the blog each week to remind students and parents what we are practicing during the week.
Students were given a binder to take home to keep their music organized. Piano students should bring their binders with them to piano club every Monday. Young musicians are encouraged to write their finger numbers in their music as needed. This week students should be practicing The Bell Tower at home, and should be prepared to play it when piano club resumes on January 27th. We hope to organize a small recital for intermediate piano students sometime in May in order to show off students' talents!

Meet the Musician!

My name is Erin Caughlan and I am the Kindergarten-Second grade music teacher at Gateway Science Academy of St. Louis. At GSA, I teach Intermediate Piano Club, and Special Chorus for 4th and 5th grade students. The music program at GSA has grown since we began in August. With more after school activities being offered and more activities going on at the school, I decided it was time to add a little more information about our music program! With all the New Years resolutions going on this time of year, I thought this would be the perfect time to create an extra resource for parents, staff, and visitors.
A little about me: I attended Missouri State University where I earned my K-12 certification in Vocal Music Education. During my studies, I was a member of several choirs, and traveled to Washington D.C., Austria, Germany, Paris, and Slovenia with the top ensemble, the Missouri State Concert Chorale. It was in Concert Chorale that I met my husband who is a music educator and instrumentalist. Since completing my degree, I have given private voice lessons to numerous high school students who have earned high rankings in All-State Vocal competitions. I am currently a member of the St. Louis Chamber Chorus participating in six concerts a year.
This is my second year at GSA, and my first year teaching K-2 students. I truly love introducing young students to new music! My favorite thing about teaching at GSA is walking down the hallways at the end of the day, and hearing students in a classroom singing a song I taught them in class. I hope to instill a love and an appreciation of music into every student.
