Choir Auditions 18-19

I am pleased to announce that Crestwood will be starting the "Crestwood Chorus"!

The Choir is open to students grades 3-5. Chorus auditions will be held Thursday, August 23 at 7:45 AM in the music room. Students will be singing "My Country 'Tis of Thee" along with other, short exercises given by the teacher.

 Here are the lyrics:

 My country 'tis of thee,
sweet land of liberty,
of thee I sing.

 Land where my fathers died,
land of the pilgrims' pride.
From every mountainside
let freedom ring.

Here is a video for practice at home. Students are encouraged to have this song prepared for the audition but it is not required. Remember, they only have to sing the first verse.

Students planning to audition should also turn in the form below for auditions. This is so I know which students have permission to audition for Crestwood Chorus. This form will be used during the audition process by Mrs. Caughlan.

Thank you! I can't wait to hear everyone on August 23rd!

Summer Camps 2017

It's that time of year again! Last year I wrote a post about some fun music summer camps. I was very pleased in the fall to hear that several students participated in some of these camps! (The "Frozen" camp from last summer was particularly popular). If you're looking for something different this summer, consider enrolling in one of these camps! Many of these programs offer year round activities as well.

Check it out!!!

School of Rock

A very popular option, School of Rock isn't just a movie. It's also a legitimate school for rock music.  "School of Rock offers one and two week camps for kids of all ages and skill levels during the summer, winter and spring breaks." They offer group and private instruction in guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and vocals.Daily camp activities include:
  • Daily Rehearsals
  • Music Workshops
  • Live Performances
  • Group and Private instruction
  • Lots of fun and rock n' roll
School of rock offers private and group lessons for students all year round. You can find more info on the camp as well as setting up a free trial music lesson here:

St. Louis Children's Choir

St. Louis Children's Choir is a group I had the honor and pleasure of being a part of when I was in High School. They follow a belief I feel very strongly in: every child can sing. They believe "children learn more about themselves (and others) through live music making." The choir is currently in it's 37th season. They have been recognized nationally for top quality vocal instruction accepting singers ages 6-18. The Children's Choir has performed with the St. Louis Symphony, The Ambassadors of Harmony, the Bach Society of Saint Louis, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, and choruses from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Webster University. The choirs have received national and international recognition travelling on musical tours to Japan, Canada, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Russia. While the St. Louis Children's Choir accepts singers through a short audition, auditions are not necessary for the summer camp. Summer Camp Information:

5/6 Grade Honor Choir

Last Saturday, seven 5th grade students participated in this year's 5th and 6th grade Honor Choir.
They rehearsed for six hours on a Saturday morning to prepare for their concert in the afternoon.

I am so proud of the hard work and dedication these students have shown. We sang, played games, and met other singers from around the St. Louis area. The concert was lovely and beautifully sung.

Dog Gone It!

Express yourself with music!

Mrs. Spink did a fantastic job decorating the music bulletin board in the hallway. It's almost time to change the board, so here's the final look!

Can you find your teacher's dog on here???

Take a look :)

First Grade is preparing for their May concert, Bucket Fillers. We all want to be bucket fillers, and not bucket dippers - hopefully a daily, lifelong goal. Please plan to attend the music program Wednesday, March 11 at 2:00pm in the Crestwood Gymnasium.

I am providing the links below so that your students can practice the program songs and movements outside of class. Since we only have music every 4 days, it would be very helpful if they would practice outside of class when they can. Thank you for your help!
