D.A.R.E. Lyrics

5th graders will be celebrating their D.A.R.E. graduation on December 16th! In celebration, 5th grade will be singing The DARE Song.

Below are lyrics for rehearsing.

Break a leg!
Mrs. Caughlan

D.A.R.E. Song

People can tell me what they’ve done.
Maybe some things. …. Maybe none.
But people can’t tell me what to do.
I will choose…. the way that’s true….. for….. me!
Don’t want to fall into the trap.
Don’t want to be somebody’s sap.
I’m better than that.
I’ll go to the mat to prove I can beee…..drug freeeee!
Yeah, yeah!

Chorus:
D!  I won’t do drugs!
A! Won’t have an attitude!
R!  I will respect myself!
E!  I will educate me!

Repeat chorus

Now……

People can tell me what they know.
I will listen as I go.
But people can’t take my mind away.
 Only I…. can have a say… in… me....
Don’t have to follow others’ path.
Don’t have to know their aftermath.
My mind is my own!
I’ll reap what I’ve sown!
I know I can be….. drug freeeee!
Yeah, yeah!

 Repeat chorus twice

Now…….

BOYS:              Check your attitude at the door…

GIRLS:
I’m gonna beat the odds.  I won’t do drugs.  I won’t give in
I’m gonna call the shots in my life.  And I’m going to win.
Don’t push me.  Don’t press me.  Don’t call me friend when
All you wanna do is drag me down.  It’s time for this to end!
Check your attitude at the door!  I do not want to score!
I only want to win in… this… drug… war!!!

Yell: D-A-R-E

Everyone sings chorus 2 times with clapping
Sing Chorus 1 time quietly with no clapping.
Sing Chorus last time really loud!
Everyone:  Now!  Now!
Yell: D-A-R-E!
Sing:  I will dare!
Yell: Dare!

Veteran's Day

Choir Club and 3rd/5th grade students had their first performance of the year on Wednesday.

Choir Club did a wonderful job singing The Star Spangled Banner. I am so proud of their hard work in only a few short weeks!

3rd and 5th graders had a combined performance of On Veteran's Day. The students voted for this piece to honor their Veterans on the holiday. Wow!!! What a terrific first performance! I am very proud of all singers and am looking forward to our first concert on November 19 at 7:00pm.

Great job Crestwood!

Crestwood Chorus Auditions

I am pleased to announce that Crestwood will be starting the "Crestwood Chorus" starting second quarter! I am very excited to be establishing this new tradition at Crestwood.

The Choir is open to students 3-5. Chorus auditions will be held Thursday, October 8 at 8:00 AM in the music room. Students will be singing "My Country 'Tis of Thee" along with other, short exercises given by the teacher.

Here are the lyrics:

My country 'tis of thee,
sweet land of liberty,
of thee I sing.

Land where my fathers died,
land of the pilgrims' pride.
From every mountainside
let freedom ring.

Here is a video for practice at home. Students are strongly encouraged to have this song prepared for the audition. Remember, they only have to sing the first verse.

Students planning to audition should also turn in the form below for auditions. This is so I know which students have permission to audition for Crestwood Chorus. This form will be used during the audition process by Mrs. Caughlan.

Thank you! I can't wait to hear everyone on October 8!

Classroom Tour

Another great start to the week!

I was so pleased to meet so many parents at the ice cream social and at curriculum night. It is great getting to know you and learn more about the students at Crestwood and their families.

If you were unable to stop by the classroom, take the tour now!! The brand new circle carpet was delivered today! Thank you to Ms. Meese for providing it for our use! The students already want to play on it. Please enjoy the tour of our music room!

5th Grade Nursery Rhymes

This week in music, 5th graders talked briefly about nursery rhymes.

We learned a new song called "Second Story Window".

Students had to "think of a rhyme and say it in time, then throw it out the window!" The class broke off into two teams. Whichever group could not think of a new rhyme was out! Each rhyme or nursery rhyme was changed to end with "threw it out the window."

Some of their rhymes were very silly with this new ending. Check it out!

Movement 4th Grade

What a week!

My first week at Crestwood has been wonderful! I have enjoyed getting to know my new students.

We have been talking about movement this week in class. This week in 4th, we've been talking about different levels. 4th graders practiced making "high", "middle", and "low" shapes. After individual and partner practice, they broke off into groups and made shapes expressing the different body levels. What a fun lesson! Here are only some of the awesome things our fourth graders came up with!

Gator's Got Talent!

The Talent show is less than a month away! Rehearsals for finalists will start next week during and after club time. Students in the talent show should already have a copy of the rehearsal schedule. To keep you excited about the upcoming show, here is a little preview of what is to come in May!!

A Year in Review

As the school year is coming to a close and students are buckling down for MAP testing and transitioning to the next grade and middle school, I thought I would help remind students just how awesome GSA elementary is and all the hard work we have done this year! Here are just a few of our accomplishments.

-In October GSA impressed the community with a great turn out to Linfest and some great Autumnal songs! Check it out HERE!

 - Check out a happy holidays from Boom-whacker club in December HERE!

- 2nd and 4th grade really made it shine at the winter concert. Sing along HERE!

And GSA is not stopping there! The talent show is coming up in MAY as well as Kindergarten Graduation, and then we are finally singing at the Cardinals game in July! I am so very proud of my students and look forward to posting many more accomplishments here!

The choirs have received national and international recognition travelling on musical tours to Japan, Canada, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Russia. While the St. Louis Children's Choir accepts singers through a short audition, auditions are not necessary for the summer camp.Summer Camp Information:

Symbaloo

I am very excited about using this new program for my students!

For the past few months, I have been trying to set up my website so that my students have access to online music games and studying materials. This process can be rather complicated and I've had some trouble getting it off the ground.

At our professional development session recently, I discovered a program called "Symbaloo." It is there that all of these materials may be found. If you're not familiar with the program, all you and your student have to do is click on a "tile" and it will take you to the website, game, or resource I have provided.

Symbaloo is a start page tool that allows users to add links in a way that is easy to use. It is accessible on the homepage of my blog.

All tiles will taken students directly to the link they advertise.
Tiles linking to Facebook, or Twitter will take students directly to the GSA Facebook or GSA Twitter page.

New resources and materials will be updated periodically.

Check it out on the home page or below!
